Vancouver Birding Spots - Amazing City Offers Bird Watchers Plenty Of Places To Indulge Their Passion

The Lower Mainland Region of British Columbia, which includes the City of Vancouver, offers a rich and abundant diversity of birds to see in this beautiful area.

Vancouver birding spots are easy to get to from most areas of the region. Song birds, water fowl and eagles can be seen in many spots throughout and around the city. As this coastal city is surrounded by water on three sides, has mountains just across the Lion's Gate Bridge and is blessed with many parks and green spaces Vancouver birding spots are numerous.

Birding During All Seasons

The mild climate of this region allows many birds to live year round. Some birds that naturally head south in other areas of north america in the winter end up staying as it seldoms drops below freezing. Although many stay, there are a multitude that do migrate south in the winter and north in the summer. It is not uncommon to see geese, ducks and swans swimming in Lost Lagoon during each month of the year and sparrows and finches flying among the trees.

Parks Throughout City

Stanley Park is a popular spot for birding as it is almost one thousand acres of forested parkland on the edge of the city. Beaver Lake in the center of the park is a beautiful and quiet spot for watching ducks and geese swimming in the water and song birds fluttering among the shrubs and trees. Lost Lagoon offers many birds for viewing, including the resident swans, and is easy to get around. The lagoon is at the entrance to the park so it is one of the popular Vancouver birding spots. Eagles can often be seen flying on the outer edges of the park and perching at the top of some of the tallest trees. The trails in the park can take you to quiet spots where you will see many song birds and even owls once in a while.

Pacific Spirit Park is a very large park at the edge of the west side of Vancouver. Being that it has water on three sides and has over 50 kilometres (30 miles) of trails you will find birding in this park very easy to do. Some of the birds that you can expect to see at different times are Red-winged black birds, hummingbirds, eagles, starlings and pine-billed grebes.

Jericho Park on the shores of English Bay is usually a peaceful park for birding. Located mid-way between downtown and the University Of British Columbia, this park is blessed with a beautiful beach and shallow waters. Many sea birds frequent the waters of this park. As well, the trees, shrubs and flowers attract a multitude of bird species.

Queen Elizabeth Park, which is at the highest point within the city, is a wonderful place to bird watch. Being that it is at the center of the city, it has many birds living there throughout the year and a great deal of migratory birds going through, too. The clolourful flower gardens and beautiful landscaping in the middle of the park are very inviting for the hummingbirds, especially.

Bird watchers from all over the world will find many Vancouver birding spots to indulge their interests in this great hobby.
